From 1928 until the introduction of the euro in Ireland, Irish coins bore a set of so-called “barnyard” animals. The set consisted of a horse half-crown, a salmon florin, a wolfhound sixpence, a hare threepence, a hen and chicks penny, a pig and piglets halfpenny and a woodcock farthing.
